Born Beeford, Driffield, 1895. Son of William and Emma Bowes, of Beeford, Driffield, Yorkshire. He lived in Beeford. Had six brothers and three sisters. He was one of three sons killed in the war along with Fred (1893-1918) – (Lancashire Fusiliers) and James Bowes (1891-1915) – (RFA). He came from a large farming family and worked as a farm servant on other farms.
He enlisted in Hull, with his brother James. Served with the 4th East Yorkshire regiment. Killed in action, on 01/10/1916, aged 21. Buried in France.
