BORN HULL 1897. SON OF WILLIAM & ADA BOYES, THIS ADDRESS AND LATER 395 WINCOLMLEE. (HDM 26/9/19). FORMERLY PRIVATE IN THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND RIFLEMAN IN THE QUEEN WESTMINSTER RIFLES. BEFORE ENLISTING, HE WAS EMPLOYED BY WILLIAM HARLAND, DRAPERS, CHARIOT STREET, HULL.
HE ENLISTED IN 1914 AND HAD SERVED FOR FOUR YEARS. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON THE 27TH SEPTEMBER 1918, AGED 22. HIS COMMANDING OFFICER WROTE, “HE WAS AN EXCELLENT FELLOW, STEADY, PERSEVERING, WILLING AND FEARLESS. HIS EXAMPLE HELPED US ALL. WE SHALL ALL MISS HIM.” HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 9TH OCTOBER 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, HAROLD BOYES, SERRVED (RAMC), WAS ATTACHED TO THE ROYAL AIR FORCE.
