BORN HULL 1897. SON OF JAMES BRACKENBURY (1856-1920) & PHOEBE LEVETT (1856-1931), AT 217 , BOULEVARD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A MARINE ENGINEER MANAGER. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. SERVED AS THE 4TH ENGINEER, ON THE STEAM SHIP MONTEBELLO, WHICH WAS SUNK, ON 21/06/1918. HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON THE ST BARNABAS CHURCH ROLL OF HONOUR.
SS Montebello, built by Earle’s Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd., Hull in 1911 and owned at the time of her loss by Ellerman’s Wilson Line, Ltd., Hull, was a British steamer of 4324 tons.
On June 21st, 1918, Montebello, on a voyage from London to Hampton Roads, was sunk by the German submarine U-100 (Degenhart von Loë), 320 miles W1/2N from Ushant (Ouessant). 41 persons were lost.
