HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 30/08/1914, AGED 25 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4.5 INCHES TALL, 123 LBS WEIGHT, 34 INCH CHEST, BROWN EYES, DARK BROWN HAIR, AND ‘GOOD’ HEALTH. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 17/10/1915. HE SERVED WITH THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. RETURNED TO ENGLAND, ON 17/03/1916, SUFFERING FROM ‘TRENCH FOOT’.. SENT TO FRANCE AGAIN, ON 02/07/1916. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 23/07/1916, AGED 28. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEARS AND 328 DAYS. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ELIZABETH. HE LEFT BROTHERS, WILLIAM, JACK & HERBERT, SISTERS, ELIZABETH, SUSAN, LILY AND FRANCIS.
