Joseph Parkinson Bradley 1888-1917

BORN HULL 1887. SON OF JOHN BRADLEY (1854-1938) & SARAH ANNIE BISSIT (1853-1912). HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND A SISTER. HIS MOTHER DIED IN A LUNATIC ASSYLUM ON 10/02/1912.

A FORMER RAILWAY WORKER. HE MARRIED MARY MARGARET MAPLESDEN (1889-1921), IN SEPTEMBER 1915. SHE LIVED AT 2 MASONS TERRACE, WELLINGTON LANE, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS) & AT 11 HOPWOOD STREET, SPRING BANK HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN THE 13TH EYR (HULL PALS). HE SERVED IN EGYPT FROM 29/12/1915. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 08/03/1916, TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED ON, 14/04/1917, AGED 30. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, “MAGGIE”.

HE IS BURIED AT MONT-BERNANCHON CHURCHYARD, IN FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “‘TIS BUT A STREAM DIVIDES US, ON EITHER SIDE THE LAND IS GOD’S”
