BORN HULL 1887. SON OF THOMAS BRANTON (1849-1925) AND JANE HILES (1858-1898), OF 19 CHURCHILL STREET, HULL. ONE OF SIX CHILDREN. THE FAMILY LIVED AT 10 JOEL’S TERRACE, DRYPOOL AND 8 MYRTLE AVENUE, WILLIAMSON STREET, HULL.
A FORMER DOCK LABOURER. HE MARRIED ON 19/01/1913, AT HULL’S HOLY TRINITY CHURCH. HIS WIFE ELIZABETH ANN BRIGGS, LIVED AT 19 CHURCHILL STREET AND 10, ARK CRESCENT, WILLIAMSON STREET, HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THE HAD A SON THOMAS WILLIAM BRANTON BORN IN DECEMBER 1913.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON 22/06/1904 AS AN 18 YEAR OLD. SERVED WITH THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY RESERVES. HE WAS DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 7 INCHES TALL, 115 LBS WEIGHT, 35 INCH CHEST, DARK COMPLEXION, BROWN EYS, BROWN HAIR, DEFECTIVE TEETH., TATTOOS, AND SCAR ON THE LEFT SIDE OF HIS FACE. HE WAS MOBILISED ON THE OUTBREAK OF WAR AND SENT TO FRANCE THE 09/09/914. DISCHARGED FROM SERVICE. HE DIED IN HULL ON 26/02/1919 AND IS BURIED IN HEDON ROAD CEMETERY. HE HAD OVER 14 YEARS OF MILITARY SERVICE. HIS WIFE WAS AWARDED A £25 WAR GRATUITY.
HIS BROTHER, GUNNER, ERNEST BRANTON, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, WAS KILLED ON 13/08/1917, AGED 35.
