Born Hull, 1888. Son of Robert Edward Bratton (1856-1919) and Martha Ann Stennett (1859-1933).
He played Half Back for West Hull Rugby Club and married the Jane Ellen Williams, the second daughter of Mr Williams, the Secretary of the Hull Recreation Amalgamation.
They lived at , of 10 Kingston Avenue, Liverpool Street, Hull (pension Ledger address).
He enlisted in the Hull Pals . Served a Private, 969, in the East Yorkshire Regiment and after training in the South of England, transferred to the 1st Lincolns and drafted to India. He died suddenly in Calcutta, of Bright disease, on 29/08/1916, aged 28. Before enlisting, he was employed by Messrs. Hargreaves, of Gipsyville, Hull
His death was reported in the Hull Daily Mail 12 September 1916. *
His widow, Jane Ellen remarried, on 28/05/1917 and was awarded a £30 grant to end the war Pension.
His surname is spelt “Bratton” in CWGC records, and “Brattan” in the War Pension Ledger.
