COLOUR SERGEANT, JOHN BRIGGS, OF 34 MARSHALL STREET, HULL. SERVED 23 YEARS WITH THE 1ST, 2ND AND 3RD BATTALIONS, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. ELEVEN YEARS WERE SPENT IN INDIA. ALTHOUGH RETIRED. HE VOLUNTEERED FOR SERVICE AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. HE DIED OF BRONCHITIS, ON 18/12/1914 . BURIED IN HULL WESTERN CEMETERY. HE LEFT FIVE DAUGHTERS AND ONE SON, WHO WAS ALSO SERVING IN THE 2ND EAST YORKSHIRES. HIS STORY, BURIAL AND MILITARY FUNERAL, WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL & LINCOLNSHIRE TIMES, ON 02/01/1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.*
