ESON OF GABRIEL THEOPHILUS BRIGHTON (1873-1944) & ELLEN BRIGHTON (1875-1943), OF 16, HARRIETS TERRACE, EASTBOURNE STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 68 , EDINBURGH STREET, HULL (1918 VOTERS & WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A SEAMAN. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND THREE SISTERS. HE WAS A BARMAN BY TRADE (1911 CENSUS).
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED IN THE KINGS OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. TRANSFERRED TO THE “DRAKE” BATTALION, ROYAL NAVAL DIVISION WHICH WAS AN INFANTRY UNIT MADE UP OF SAILORS. KILLED AT GALLIPOLI, ON 05/06/1915, AGED 22. COMMEMORATED ON THE HELLES MEMORIAL, TURKEY.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 05/06/1918.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON ST JOHNN THE BAPTIST WW1 MEMORIAL, NEWINGTON, HULL.
HIS BROTHER GEORGE SERVED IN THE MERCHANT NAVY.
