BORN HULL 1898. KNOWN AS “BRICKY”. ELDEST SON OF HERBERT & CHARLOTTE BRIGNALL & NINE CHILDREN AT THIS NAVAL ADDRESS. HE HAD SERVED THREE YEARS IN THE ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE, ON MINESWEEPERS. HAD THE MISFORTUNE TO BE LOST ON HIS FIRST VOYAGE ON THE S/S DURBAN, WHICH STRUCK A MINE AFTER THE WAR. HE WAS 20 YEARS OLD. HIS PHOTOGRAPH WAS PRINTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 11TH APRIL 1919. *
Built for Humber Steam Fishing & Ice Co., Hull (H378). In December 1914 vessel Rqd by the Royal Navy as an auxiliary vessel No FY 1209. In October 1915 returned to owners. In 1917 vessel Rqd by Royal Navy as a fishing trawler (Fishery Reserve). In 1919 vessel returned to owners. On 15/03/1919 the Hull trawler DURBAN (H378) posted missing:- Lost all hands (possibly mined) in the North Sea.
