BORN BEVERLEY 1883. ONLY SURVIVING SON OF JOHN BRITCHFORD (1851- 1916) AND MAY JANE HAMSHAW (1862-1936), of 71 WEST PARADE, AND 2, ELIZA TERRACE, WEST PARADE, SPRING BANK WEST, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). HE HAD TWO SISTERS – ELSIE AND GLADYS. EMPLOYED AS A BARMAN.

HE MARRIED ALICE ELIZABETH SCOTT, AT THE HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, HULL, 02/10/1908. HIS WIFE ALICE AND THREE CHILDREN (ALICE, IRENE AND GEORGE), LIVED AT 4, EXMOUTH SQUARE, HUMBER STREET AND THEN 2, HORNER’S SQUARE, HUMBER STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 15/11/1915. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 9 INCHES TALL, 34 INCH CHEST, 136 LBS, POOR TEETH, OF ‘FAIR’ PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. FIT FOR HOME SERVICE ONLY. TRANSFERRED TO THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY ON 31/05/1916. POSTED TO FRANCE, 15/07/1916. KILLED IN ACTION, 16/07/1918, AGED 34. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WENT TO HIS WIDOW ALICE, AT 2, HORNER’S SQUARE, HUMBER STREET, HULL.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HDM 16/07/1919. BURIED IN BELGIUM. HIS GARVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “SLEEPING UNTIL THE RESURRECTION”
