Born Hull, 1881. Eldest child of Thomas (1859-1926) and Emma Broughton (1862-1949), of 6 Lukes Terrace Walker Street, Hull (1911 Census). Son f a Paint Brush Maker. Siblings, Herbert, Harriet and Emma.

Married at Hull, on 19th February 1910. Husband of Harriet Jane Rodgers, at 1, Rosedene Villas, Raglan Street, Hull (1911 Census); 54, West Dock Avenue, Hull (Army Address) and 9, Egton Villas, Egton Street, Hull (War Pension address). He had served in the South African Constabulary. In Hull he worked as a Motor Bus Driver,

Described as 5 foot, 7.5 inches tall, 37-39 inch chest and very good character.

Enlisted 26th February 1915. Posted to the Alexandria, Egypt, on 29th March 1915. Served overseas, in the Royal Army Service Corps. Invalided to England, on 25th June 1915. Discharged after 276 days, with Diabetes, on 28th November 1915. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: 119621).

Died after discharge, on 5th November 1911, aged 36.
