BORN BEVERLEY 07/03/1888. SON OF HENRY JOHN BROWN (1861-1930) & GERTRUDE EMILY MERRITT (1866-1947), AT 33, HAVELOCK STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL. A BUTCHER. HE WORKED FOR MR RILEY, AT CAMPBELL STREET, HULL.
HE MARRIED MARY HARRISON IN 1915. HIS WIFE, MARY LIVED AT 24, CHURCH STREET, HULL AND 2, CRYSTAL VILLAS, VICTOR STREET, HULL.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. AS PRIVATE, 23927, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 2ND YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE HAD BEEN IN FRANCE FOR SIX MONTHS, WHEN HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 02/04/1917, AGED 29.
BURIED AT HENIN COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HE LEFT A BROTHER, GUNNER, ARTHUR BROWN, RFA, INVALIDED HOME IN MARCH 1916 AND NOW IN SALONIKA, AND SISTERS, MABEL, GERTRUDE, ALICE AND EMILY.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “EVER IN THOUGHT MARY”.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 20/04/1917 & 02/04/1919.
