BORN NEWLAND, HULL 1879. SON OF CHARLES AND ELIZABETH BROWN. ENLISTED IN HULL ON 13/03/1900. A REGULAR SOLDIER SERVING WITH THE KINGS OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY, WHEN WAR BEGAN. ARRIVED IN BELGIUM WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE, ON 26/08/1914. KILLED IN ACTION ON 16/09/1914, AGED 35. BURIED IN FRANCE.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, GRACE AMELIA BROWN AND THEIR CHILDREN, CHARLES BROWN, AND ELIZABETH AND ELSIE BROUGH FROM HER FIRST MARRIAGE. THEY LIVED AT 7 LINCOLN TERRACE, LIDDELL STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
HIS NAME WAS LISTED ON THE PORTLAND STREET, GARDEN STREET MEMORIAL. AND LIDDELL STREET ROLLS OF HONOUR.
