HE WAS A FORMER RAILWAY CLERK AND VAN MAN. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIMAS 5 FOOT 10.5 INCHES TALL, 150 LBS WEIGHT, 40 INCH CHEST, BROWN EYES, DARK COMPLEXION, AND DARK BROWN EYES.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON HIS 19TH BIRTHDAY. SERVED AS A GUNNER, WITH THE HULL HEAVY ARTILLERY. SPENT 26 DAYS IN HOSPITAL FROM FEB 1915, WITH A STD. HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 20/04/1915. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 21/09/1916, AGED 21. BURIED AT FLATIRON COPSE CEMETERY, MAMETZ, SOMME. A SINGLE MAN. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, LOUISA.
HE LEFT BROTHERS, JOSEPH NORRIS, ARTHUR GORDON, AND LEONARD BADEN BROWN, AND SISTER, LOUISA NORAH BROWN.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHNS CHURCH, NEWLAND, CLOUGH ROAD, HULL.
