Brown, John

Born Lowton, Leigh, Lancs, 1890. Son of the late Edward and Mary Elen Brown, of 246, Firs Lane, Leigh, Lancs; Son a gas works labourer. He had an younger brother, Edward and five sisters, Mary, Maggie, Martha, Ester and Lizzie.

John Brown worked as a Coal Miner Hewer, living with his mother at 2, Mitchell St Plank Lane Leigh Lancs (1911 census).

He married at Hull, in 1915. Husband of Ethel Mary Thomas Brown, of 9, Newstead Street., Hull (CWGC addresses) and 165, Church Street, Hull (war Pension address). They had one son, Harry, born on 15/4/1916.

Enlisted at Atherton, Lancashire. served in the 10th Lancashire Fusiliers. Killed in action, on 25 Apr 1916, aged 26. His widow was awarded a weekly war pension of 15 shillings., on 20/11/1916.

Buried at  Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, France. His CWGC grave reads THOUGH DEATH DIVIDES FOND MEMORIES CLING
