BORN HULL 1893. SON OF JOHN (1851-1928) & JANE BATTY (1860-1929), OF 12, WARNE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A RULLEYMAN. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND TWO SISTERS. WAS UNMARRIED AND WORKED AS A PORTER/LOADER FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS. HE LIVED WITH HIS PARENTS AT 12 WAWNE STREET, HULL.
ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS ON 21/11/1914. TRAINED AT BEVERLEY AND RIPON. SERVED IN EGYPT FROM 29/12/1915. ARRIVED FRANCE 08/03/1916. PROMOTED SERGEANT ON 16/09/1916. WOUNDED IN ACTION AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916. DIED OF WOUNDS 30/11/1916, AGED 23. COMMEMORATED ON THE CAMBRAI MEMORIAL.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 21/02/1917. *
HIS BROTHER, GUNNER, 1366, HENRY EDMOND BROWN, SERVED WITH THE 2ND NORTHUMBRIAN BDE, RFA, WAS WOUNDED IN MARCH 1916 AND RETURNED TO FRANCE IN AUGUST 1916. BEFORE THE WAR HE ALSO WORKED FOR THE NORTH EAST RAILWAYS AT THE FISH STAGE, HULL DOCKS.
