BORN COTTINGHAM 1/04/1896. SON OF FRED BRUMBY (1861-1925) & ANNIE GRANTHAM (1860-1948), OF 1, THE ARCH, FINKLE STREET, COTTINGHAM & 7, EXCHANGE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS. HE WORKED AS A NURSERYMAN, IN COTTINGHAM (1911 CENSUS) BEFORE JOINING THE ARMY.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED IN THE 1ST COLDREAM GUARD. WENT TO FRANCE WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE, ON 13/08/1914. KILLED AT LANGEMARK, ON 23/10/1914, AGED 20.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MENIN GATE MEMORIAL. RECORDED ON THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR (VOULNE 2, PAGE 45). HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE COTTINGHAM METHODIST CHURCH WW1 PLAQUE.
HIS ELDER BROTHER, PRIVATE, FREDERICK WILLIAM BRUMBY, 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 19/09/1918.
