Born Barton Upon Humber, 1879. Son of John and Margery Ellen Burgess. Worked as a Boot repairer and boarded at 61, Waterloo Street, Hull (1911 Census).
He enlisted in Hull. Served with the 10th West Yorkshires. Died on the first day of the Somme Battle, 1st July 1916, aged 37. His army effects were left to his elder brother, John.
