Born Duffield, Derbyshire,1889. Son of Richard Henry and Sarah Ann Burniston, of 3, Bessemer Terrace Lorne Street, Hull (1911 Census) and 12, Plimsol Terrace, Chapman Street, Hull (War pension address). He had an elder brother, John and two sisters. The family ran a shoe business. He was a Boot Repairer.
He enlisted in Hull. Formerly, Private, 15988, East Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred to the 8th Yorkshire Regiment. Died of wounds, in Italy, on 18/07/1918, aged 28.
