BORN HULL 1898. ELDEST SON OF ROBERT & ALICE BURTON, OF SELBY STREET HULL, AND 13 TRINITY GROVE, HESSLE. WORKED AS A FARM ASSISTANT (1911 CENSUS) AND WITH HIS FATHER, AT ANNISON’S CABS, WITHAM, HULL.
HE ENLISTED AT HULL. SERVED WITH THE 2ND/6TH SHERWOOD FORESTER. KILLED IN ACTION 26/09/1917, AGED 19. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER ALICE IN HIS WILL.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL, Panel 99 to 102 and 162 to 162A.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 22/10/1917. HIS FATHER SERVED IN EGYPT DURING THE WAR.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HESSLE ROLL OF HONOUR, ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH.
