Burton, Elijah

Born Leicester, 1889. Son of Charles Burton (1857-1916) and Emma Burton (1856-1937), of 55, Morton Road, Leicester. Brothers, Thomas, Charles and Joseph, and sister, Florence.

A Moulder by Trade. He was also a former soldier and Territorial reservist.

Described as 5 foot, 8.5 inches tall, 140 lbs weight, 36-38.5 inch chest, Green eyes, Light Brown Hair, good physical development, a Tattoos on both arms, Church of England religion.

Enlisted Leicester. on 16/11/1908. Served in the 9th Leicestershire Regiment. Posted to France, on 20/09/1914. Killed in action, on 01/10/1917, aged 28. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

He married Catherine Blackburn, at Hull, in 1916. Husband of Catherine Burton, of 93, Bright Street, Holderness Road, Hull (war Pension Address). They had three children. Their son Ernest died of pneumonia aged 16 months on 6th Jan 1918.
