BORN HULL 29/01/1892. ONLY SON OF EDITH EMILY BURTON (1860-) & THE LATE WALTER JAMES BURTON (1862-1914), OF 380 ANLABY ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND SPRINGFIELD TERRACE, STAMFORD BRIDGE, YORK (CWGC ADDRESS).

HE WORKED AS A TIMBER CLERK (1911 CENSUS) AND FOR HIS FATHER’S BUSINESS, W. J. BURTON PRINTERS & STATIONERS.

HE WAS COMMISSIONED AS SECOND LIEUTENANT, INTO THE 4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 05/04/1916, AGED 24. BURIED IN BELGIUM.

HE LEFT £315 IN HIS WILL, TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER, EDITH AR 35 HAWTHORNS AVENUE, HULL (PROBATE ADDRESS). UNMARRIED. HE LEFT A SISTER, DORIS.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 11/04/1916.

BURIED AT LINDENHOEK CHALET MILITARY CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE READS, “OURS ARE THE SHADOWS HIS THE LIGHT OF DAY”.
