Husband of Margaret Butcher (born 22/12/1887), of 12, Seaton Terrace, Walcott Street, Hull (war Pension address). They had two young children, James Ernest and Isabella, born in 1916 & 1917.
Enlisted in Manchester. Served in the 2nd Border regiment. Killed in action, on 26/10/1917, aged 30. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
His wife died shortly after and guardianship of their children went to Jane Cole, at 11, Wellington Terrace, Bean Street, Hull.
