He married Edith Elizabeth Carr, at York, on 23 Oct 1907. They had three children and lived at 66 Buckingham Street, Hull (1911 Census) and 35, Belvoir Street, Hull (army Address).

Re-enlisted at Hull, on 16/11/1914. Served in the 16th York & Lancs regiment. Posted to France, on 28/04/1916. Wounded and returned to England on 13/08/1917. He was transferred as a Gunner, in the East Riding, RGA at Filey, until discharged with 30% gas poisoning, on 2 Mar 1919.

He moved to 6, Winslade Crescent, Perth Street, Hull (War Pension address). Died on 06/01/1929, aged 55.
