Cameron, Alexander

BORN ABERDEEN 1867. HE WORKED AS A MARINE ENGINEER IN HULL (1901 CENSUS), BOARDING AT 109 BEAN STREET, WHERE HE MET HIS FUTURE WIFE ALICE, WHO WAS 15 YEARS YOUNGER THAN HIM. HIS WIFE ALICE CAMERON LIVED AT THIS ADDRESS, WHEN HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL. HE WAS SECOND ENGINEER, ON THE CARGO SHIP ‘HARROGATE’, WHICH FOUNDERED, 50 MILES OF THE COAST OF NORWAY, ON 20/02/1918. SHE WAS ON A VOYAGED FROM HULL TO BERGEN CARRYING A CARGO OF COKE. HE WAS LOST AT SEA. AGED 49.  NO CWGC RECORD.

The British cargo ship Harrogate SS foundered 50 miles off the coast of Norway on February 20th, 1918. She was on a voyage from Hull to Bergen carrying a cargo of coke. ref. used:Hocking C., Dictionary of Disasters at Sea during the Age of Steam.
