BORN HULL 1876. SON OF LATE PATRICK & ANN CANNON, HULL. LODGED AT THIS ADDRESS. KILLED BY MINE LAID BY SUBMARINE UC62 ON VOYAGE FROM TYNE.
SS Hazelwood, built by Ropner & Son, Stockton in 1904 and owned at the time of her loss by Gascony SS. Co. Ltd. (L. Walford Ltd.), was a British steamer of 3120 tons.
On October 19th, 1917, Hazelwood, on a voyage from the Tyne with a cargo of coal, was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-62 (Max Schmitz), 8 miles SxE1/2E from Anvil Point. 32 persons were lost.
