BORN HULL 10/12/1883. SONOF ALBERT CAWKWELL AND AGNES HOLLOWAY. MARRIED AT ST ANDREW’S CHURCH, HULL, ON 5TH JULY 1913. HIS WIFE FLORENCE ILLINGWORTH, LIVED AT THIS ADDRESS. HE JOINED THE ARMY ON 11TH JUNE 1903. SERVING AS A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER, WITH THE WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. AS A RESERVIST, HE WAS MOBILIZED ON 4TH AUGUST 1914 WHEN WAR BEGAN. HE WENT TO FRANCE AS A COMPANY SERGEANT MAJOR, IN SEPTEMBER 1914 & SERVED AT MONS. ALSO TOOK PART IN MAY OTHER ENGAGEMENTS. HE WAS WOUNDED IN ACTION, ON THE SOMME IN 1918. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 10TH OCTOBER 1918, AGED 34, AT NO:58 CASUALTY CLEARING STATION IN FRANCE. HE LEFT MOTHER & FATHER IN LAW ARTHUR. BROTHERS ALFRED AND ARTHUR, AND SISTERS, ADA, AGNES AND AMY.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 18TH OCTOBER 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. * AND IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 16TH DECEMBER 1917 & ON 10TH OCTOBER 1919.
