BORN HULL 1895. SON OF JOHN BARNETT CHAPMAN AND ANNIE LOUISE CHAPMAN, AT 15 ST GEORGES ROAD, HULL. HIS FATHER WAS A HULL TOWN CLERK WHO LATER MOVED TO BURTON ON TRENT. EDUCATED AT HYMERS COLLEGE. ALFRED CHAPMAN BECAME AN ARTICLED CLERK AT A SOLICITORS IN BURTON ON TRENT. AT THE START OF WAR HE ENLISTED IN DERBY AS A PRIVATE IN THE ROYAL FUSILIERS PUBLIC SCHOOLS BATTALION. AFTER FIVE MONTHS IN FRANCE HE WAS COMMISSIONED AND GAZETTED TO THE ROYAL FLYING CORPS AS A FLIGHT SCOUT. HE CAME ON LEAVE ON 1ST SEPTEMBER 1917. ON 18TH SEPTEMBER HE WAS KILLED OVER ENEMY LINES AT CAMBRAI, AGED 23. HE IS BURIED AT HONNECHY BRITISH CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 20TH OCTOBER 1917.
