Born Lund, Beverley 1892. Son of Thomas Chapman and Lydia Piercy Chapman, of Lund, Beverley, Yorks. Son of a Gardener. Employed as a Bank Clerk, living at 59 Princes Road, Hull (1911 Census). He enlisted in Beverley, joining the 21st Kings Royal Rifle Corps. Promoted to Lance Corporal. He was killed in action on the Somme, on 17/09/1916, aged 25. Commemorated on the Thiepval memorial to the missing. He left brother Thomas and sisters Rita.Mary Jane and Nora.
His younger brother, Pte, Henry Maurice Chapman, 19th Durham Light Infantry, was killed in action, at Arras, on 28/03/1918, aged 19.
