Cherry, Ernest

Born Beverley 1895. Son of William Moulsdale Cherry (1853-1924) and Ann Train (1859-1941), of 6, Teddington Villas, Holme Church Lane, Beverley, Yorkshire and 5, Ash Grove, Hayworth Street, Beverley Road, Hull (War Pension address). Son of a retired ship plate riveter. He had an older brother, Arthur and two sisters, Maggie and Lilian. Employed as a rope maker’s assistant.

He enlisted at Beverley. Formerly, Private, 22204, East York Regiment. Transferred to as Private, 41234, 17th Highland Light Infantry. He died of Bronchitis, on 08/02/1917, aged 21. His army effects were left to his father, William. Buried at Etaples, France. His grave inscription, reads, “TOO DEARLY LOVED TO EVER BE FORGOTTEN”.

His brother Arthur Train Cherry, a boiler maker, enlisted on 02/11/1914, and served as 13378, Coldstream Guards, during the war.
