Born Beverley 1895. Son of William Moulsdale Cherry (1853-1924) and Ann Train (1859-1941), of 6, Teddington Villas, Holme Church Lane, Beverley, Yorkshire and 5 Ash Grove, Hepworth Street, Beverley Road, Hull (War Pension address). Son of a retired ship plate riveter. He had an older brother, Arthur and two sisters, Maggie and Lilian. Employed as a rope maker’s assistant.
He enlisted at Beverley. Formerly, Private, 22204, East York Regiment. Transferred to as Private, 41234, 17th Highland Light Infantry. He died of Bronchitis, on 08/02/1917, aged 21. His army effects were left to his father, William. Buried at Etaples. His grave inscription, reads, “TOO DEARLY LOVED TO EVER BE FORGOTTEN”.
His brother Arthur Train Cherry, a boiler maker, enlisted on 02/11/1914, and served as 13378, Coldstream Guards, during the war.
