BORN HULL 1883. SON OF MARIAN CLARK, OF HULL, AND ‘STONE LODGE’, RISE, YORKSHIRE. WIFE EMILY MAY CLARK LIVED AT – 2 RUSSELL STREET, HULL. (HDM 10/05/1918). HE EMIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA LIVING AT 4 MORGAN STREET, NEWCASTLE. HE ENLISTED AT NEWCASTLE, NEW SOUTH WALES, ON 19/02/1917, AGED 34 YEARS OLD. OCCUPATION:COOK. A FORMER SOLDIER. EX, 3RD SOUTH WALES BORDERERS. HE ALSO SERVED WITH THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT FOR SIX YEARS, INCLUDING IN THE BOER WAR. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT. 5.5 INCHES TALL, 128 LBS WEIGHT, 33 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, BROWN HAIR, SOME DENTAL TREATMENT REQUIRES. HE LEFT SYDNEY ON 24/04/1917, ON HMAT “SUFFOLK”. ARRIVED IN PLYMOUTH, ON 17/08/1917. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 18/12/1917. POSTED TO THE 184TH TUNNELING COMPANY. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/04/1918, AGED 35. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 10/05/1918. HIS NAME WAS LISTED IN HULL’S HOLY TRINITY CHURCH ‘GOLDEN BOOK’. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE VILLERS-BRETONNEUX MEMORIAL. HE LEFT HIS ARMY EFFECTS TO HIS WIDOW EMILY AND MOTHER IN TWO SEPARATE WILLS WHICH CAUSED SOME CONFUSION WITH THE DISTRIBUTION.
