Born Thorne, Yorkshire, 1896. Eldest child of Seth and Alice Clark, of 1, Holborn Street, Witham, Hull (CWGC & War Pension address). He had a younger brother, Sam and three sisters, Annie, Alice and Isa

Employed as a Bricklayer. Described as 5 foot, 9 inches tall, 39-41.5 inch chest, 151 lbs weight, Church of England religion.

He enlisted at Thorne, on 15th February 1916. Formerly, 517Th London Field Coy., R.E. Sent to Chatham and Served as a Sapper, Royal Engineers, 517th Field Company. Posted to France, on 14th May 1917. Died of wounds, at 4th London Field Ambulance, 05 July 1917, aged 22. Unmarried his army effects were left to his parents.

Buried in Belgium. His grave inscription reads, IN AFFECTIONATE REMEMBRANCE OF OUR DEAR SON HE DIED FOR US
