BORN SOUTH SHIELDS, 1876. SON OF DAVID & MARGARET CLARKE. WIFE SARAH McCARTHY, OF 96 BOUNDARY STREET, LIVERPOOL. LOST BY ENEMY ACTION. HULL MERCHANT NAVY RECORDS.

SS Oslo, built by Earle’s Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd., Hull in 1906 and owned at the time of her loss by Ellerman’s Wilson Line, Ltd., Hull, was a British steamer of 2296 tons.
On August 21st, 1917, Oslo, on a voyage from Trondheim to Liverpool with a cargo of copper ore, was sunk by the German submarine U-87 (Rudolf Schneider), 15 miles ExN of the Out Skerries, Shetland Islands. 3 persons were lost.
