HE EMIGRATED TO CANADA IN 1910. LIVED AT OGDEN, CALGARY, CANADA. WORKED AS A BOOK KEEPER.
HE ENLISTED AT CALGARY, ON 26/04/1915, AGED 23 YEARS AND 3 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 11 INCHES TALL, 128 LBS WEIGHT, 33.5 INCH CHEST, LIGHT BROWN EYES, BLACK HAIR & CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION. TRAINED WITH THE 56TH BATTALION. ARRIVED IN ENGLAND ON 29/09/1915. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 19/07/1916. HE SERVED AS PRIVATE, 446061, ‘C’ COMPANY, 31ST BATTALION, CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 15/09/1916, AGED 24. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE VIMY MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER JOSEPH, IN CANADA. HE LEFT BROTHER, ALFRED AND SISTERS, AMY AND ETHIE.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/11/1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
