BORN HULL 1898. SON OF WILLIAM MAPLE CLOUGH (1859-1930) & MARY NOTTINGHAM, AT 26 EXCHANGE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A BOILER MAKER. ONE OF FIVE CHILDREN.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL.EX, PRIVATE, 32865, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 29TH MACHINE GUN CORPS. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT LYS, ON 12/04/1918, AGED 21. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 20/06/1918. *
UNMARRIED HE LEFT PARENTS, THREE SISTERS, LILLIAN, GRACE & ALICE & A BROTHER, PTE. WILLIAM EWART CLOUGH (1889-1940), WHO SERVED IN THE KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY.
HE IS BURIED AT TROIS ARBRES CEMETERY, STEENWERCK, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “OUR LOSS, HEAVEN’S GAIN”.
HE IS COMMEMORATED AT ST MARYS CHURCH, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL.
