BORN EASINGTON 1865. SON OF FRANCIS CLUBLEY (1832-1875) AND SARAH CUTHBERT (1831-1913). A MARINE ENGINEER. HE MARRIED AT HULL ON 01/10/1887. HUSBAND OF MARTHA CHARLOTTE SHARPIN (1866-1959), OF 40 HAVELOCK STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 36 COLTMAN STREET, HULL. THEY HAD SEVEN CHILDREN. HE SERVED AS CHIEF ENGINEER ON THE “MONTEBELLO”, LOST AT SEA, ON 21/06/1918, AGED 53. HE LEFT £588 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 30TH JULY 1918.

SS Montebello, built by Earle’s Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd., Hull in 1911 and owned at the time of her loss by Ellerman’s Wilson Line, Ltd., Hull, was a British steamer of 4324 tons. On June 21st, 1918, Montebello, on a voyage from London to Hampton Roads, was sunk by the German submarine U-100 (Degenhart von Loë), 320 miles W1/2N from Ushant (Ouessant). 41 persons were lost, included the ship’s Master.
