BORN HULL 1896. SON OF MR ALBERT COCKERILL (1866-1928) & MARGARET WALKER (1872-1914), OF 231 WINCOLMLEE AND 5 OAK TERRACE, SWANN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. THEY LOST 3 SONS IN THE WAR. EMPLOYED IN THE HULL OIL MILLS.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 13383, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT.. TRANSFERRED TO THE MACHINE GUN CORP. KILLED IN ACTION ON 30/12/1916, AGED 20. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 10TH JANUARY 1917 WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. * AND AGAIN (HDM 07/12/1917). UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, ALBERT. HE HAS NO KNOWN GRAVE AND IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
HIS OLDER BROTHER PTE, FRANK COCKERILL, 12TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/08/1916, AGED 25. HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, PTE, EDWARD COCKERILL, 1ST EYR, WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 17/06/1917, AGED 18.
