HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 29/08/1914, AGED 26. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 128 LBS WEIGHT, 35.5 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, BROWN HAIR. JOINED THE 5TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HOWEVER, DISCHARGED ON 05/11/1914, DUE TO DEFECTIVE TEETH.
HE RE-ENLISTED ON 10/05/1915 AND WAS MOBILIZED ON 02/07/1917. POSTED TO FRANCE, AS PRIVATE, 57231, THE 1/5TH WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE DIED OF INFLUENZA, ON 11/10/1918, AGED 30. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS LAST WIFE, EMMIE, AT 1, HARRY’S TERRACE, OXFORD STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION & ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS).
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE VIS-EN ARTOIS MEMORIAL, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE.
