BORN HULL 1892. SON OF GEORGE HENRY COGGRAVE (1848-1930) & SARAH ANN ADAMS (1853-1944), OF 3, GOSHEN PLACE, JAMES STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS)) AND 1 CLARENCE PLACE, PORTLAND STREET, HULL.
SON OF A YEAST LABOURER. ONE OF TWELVE CHILDREN AND SEVEN SONS. BROTHERS, GEORGE, FRED, CHARLES, ALFRED, FRANK & JOSEPH.
WALTER COGGRAVE, WAS A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER (1911 CENSUS). HE ENLISTED IN THE 2ND EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AT HULL. WENT TO FRANCE, ON 15/01/1915. WAS KILLED AT THE BATTLE OF LOOS, ON 29/09/1915, AGED 23.
(The 2nd Battalion, The East Yorkshire Regiment (The Duke of York’s Own) was in India in August 1914 when war broke out, it arrived home in December 1914, to join the newly formed 28th Division, with which it went to France in January 1915.)
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 21/10/1915 & 30/09/1919. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, GEORGE, HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS MOTHER, SARAH ANN.
HE WAS ONE OF THREE SONS KILLED IN THE WAR. PRIVATE, WALTER COGGRAVE, 2ND EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT WAS KILLED AT LOOS, ON 29/09/1915, AGED 23.

PRIVATE, ALFRED COGGRAVE, 9TH KINGS OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY, WAS KILLED DURING THE 1918 GERMAN SPRING OFFENSIVE, ON 21/03/1918, AGED 29.
