A PLUMBER. HE MARRIED EVELYN MAY WHITING (1895-1976), IN APRIL 1916. THEY LIVED AT “SPRING MOUNT”, BENTLEY, NEAR BEVERLEY.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 18/07/1915. SERVED AS GUNNER, 72997, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, RESERVE BRIGADE, TRENCH MORTAR BATTERY. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 23/04/1918, AGED 30.
BURIED AT AIRE COMMUNAL CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THY WILL BE DONE”. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE ROWLEY WW1 MEMORIAL, LITTLE WEIGHTON, EAST YORKSHIRE, ONE OF 15 NAMES ON THE MEMORIAL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 29/04/1918.
