When the Platoon Commander was badly wounded and the platoon was completely cut off by the enemy, this NCO sent out patrols to find a way out, and in broad daylight, safely evacuated the whole of the men and the wounded Officer. It was entirely due to his efforts that all were not captured.” (03/09/1918)
