BORN ALDBROUGH, YORKSHIRE, 1893. SON OF WILLIAM JOHN COLLINSON (1848-1938) & KEZIA ANN COLLINSON (1857-1914) OF CARLTON LANE, ALDBROUGH, WTHERNWICK, NEAR HULL. HIS SISTER OLIVE LIVED AT 129 , NEW BRIDGE ROAD, HULL. HE LIVED IN CONISTON, WHERE HE WORKED AS A FARM HAND.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 1/830, 12TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, (3RD HULL PALS BATTALION. HE SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM) FOR BRAVERY IN JUNE 1917. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, AT ETAPLES, ON 03/07/1917, AGED 25. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, WILLIAM HE WAS BROTHER TO LILY, MRYTLE, OLIVE, JAMES AND VIOLET.
HIS BROTHER, ARTHUR COLLINSON, EMIGRATED TO MASTERTON, WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND, WHERE HE ALSO WORKED AS A FARM HAND. HE JOINED THE 1ST WELLINGTON INFANTRY REGIMENT AND SERVED AS A SNIPER, IN THE NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, IN FRANCE, ON 08/06/1917, AGED 35. THEIR FATHER HAD LOST TWO SONS, KILLED IN FRANCE WITHIN A MONTH OF EACH OTHER.
EDGAR COLLINSON IS BURIED AT ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THY WILL BE DONE”.
