Born 19 Apr 1890 • Mareham le Fen, Lincolnshire. Son of John Outram Cooling (1850-1914) and Mary Hannah Padley (1856-1933);

Married at 19 Apr 1890 • Mareham le Fen, Lincolnshire. Husband of Florence Minnie Hotham (12/10/1887-1967), of 4, School Street, Hull (CWGC address). Soldiers Died Records state that he resided in Hull.

A Professional Soldier, He joined the army as a Drummer Boy (1911 Census).

He enlisted at Lincoln. Served in the 2nd Lincolnshire Regiment. Posted to France, with the British Expeditionary Force, on 5 Nov 1914.

Killed in action, on 10 Mar 1915, aged 28. Commemorated on Le Ouret Memorial, France.

His army effects were left to his widow. She was awarded a weekly war pension of ten shillings and sixpence.
