Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE RANDOLPH CHURCHILL COOPER 14/22. Born in 1891 Randolph was the fourth of five children to Leonard and Mary Cooper of 61 Porter Street, Hull and 13 Cambridge Street, Hull. His childhood was far from ideal and records show he was admitted as a ‘Lunacy Patient’ as a 15-year-old on 28th November 1906, though there’s no record of why or when he was released. He worked as a Canteen Manager before the war and barman at the Holderness Hotel, Hull. He married Beatrice Ida Turner at Parliament Street Register Office, on 7th October 1915 and the couple moved to 41 Damson Lane, though their time together was short as Randolph enlisted 13 days later joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, 3rd Hull Pals, and began his training ready for shipping out to the trenches. He arrived in France on 9th April 1916. Randolph Churchill Cooper was killed in action, on 6th August 1916 and is buried in St. Vaast Post Military Cemetery; he was 25 years old. His brother Ernest Cooper, served with the 13th East Yorkshire Regiment and was reported missing, but later found and survived the war.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 06/09/1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
