BORN HULL 1901. SECOND SON OF CHRISTOPHER & MARY ELIZABETH COPE, OF 5, ALFRED’S TERRACE, DALTRY STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS); 3, THE AVENUE, LINNAEUS STREET, HULL AND 27, GREAT THORNTON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF AN IRON YARD LABOURER. THIRD OF SEVEN CHILDREN.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS. 100TH TRAINING BATTALION. HE DIED OF PNEUMONIA ON 05/01/1917, AGED 16, AT CONOUGHT HOSPITAL, FARNBOROUGH, HAMPSHIRE.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 10TH JANUARY 1917 WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HIS BROTHER, L/CPL, GEORGE WILLIAM COPE, SERVED WITH 1ST LANCASHIRE FUSILIERS, AND LIVED AT 5, ALFRED TERRACE, DALTRY STREET, HULL. HE WAS DISCHARGED 50% FIT WITH DYSENTERY AND MALARIA.
