Hugh Simpson Cornwell

BORN HULL 1898. SON OF WALTER & HELEN CORNWELL, OF 5 EBENEEZER TERRACE, SYMONS STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). BEFORE THE WAR HE WAS A RAILWAY CLERK , FOR THE HULL & BARNSLY LINE, AT THE SCULCOATES DEPOT.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 42508, 2ND PRINCE OF WALES OWN, (WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT). KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/08/1917, AGED 19. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL. HE LEFT SIBLINGS JOSEPH AND MARGARET. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, HELEN.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH ON 22ND JULY 1918. *
