HE ENLISTED AT HULL, INTO THE 5TH EAST YORKSHIRE CYCLIST, ON 06/04/1914. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 34 INCH CHEST. AFTER 3 YEARS AND 72 DAYS ARMY SERVICE, HE TRANSFERRED AS ABLE SEAMAN, IN THE ROYAL NAVAL DIVISION, “DRAKE” BATTALION, FROM 160/6/1917. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, DURING THE GERMAN SPRING OFFENSIVE, ON 25/03/1918, AGED 21. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL, TO THE MISSING. HE HAD SERVED FOR 3 YEARS AND 72 DAYS.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 25/03/1919 AND IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 24/04/1918.
