HE WAS EMPLOYED AS A BREWER’S BOTTLER AND BY THE HULL CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 13999, 6TH KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED AT HOOGE, ON 2ND AUGUST 1915, AGED 21. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER HENRIETTA. HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE HERBERT COX, 9TH KOYLI, WAS WOUNDED, SAME DATE, BY THE SAME SHELL (HDM, 16.05.1916)
HE IS BURIED AT SANCTUARY WOOD CEMETERY, BELGIUM.HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT”
HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH APPEAR IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 10TH SEPTEMBER 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON 11TH SEPTEMBER 1915. *
HE IS REMEMBERED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL MEMORIAL AND NEEDLERS WW1 MEMORIAL PLAQUE.
