BORN WALSALL 09/05/1871. SON OF GEORGE COX AND ELEANOR ALICE GREEN (1847-1875). SON OF A BRUSH MAKER. EDUCATED AT LAMBERT STREET SCHOOL, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON 09/08/1893. PROMOTED TO KINGS CORPORAL. SERVED IN THE BOER WAR & MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES (MID) BY LORD KITCHENER. OBTAINED HIS DISCHARGE. SERVED IN THE RESERVES.

HE REPRESENTED THE NATIONAL RESERVES AT GEORGE V’s CORONATION.

HE MARRIED AT ST JUDE’S CHURCH, DUBLIN, ON 13/12/1898. HIS WIFE, CHRISTINA JENKINS, WAS DAUGHTER OF A SOLDIER IN THE KING’S ROYAL RIFLE CORPS.

HE LIVED WITH HIS WIFE AND SIX CHILDREN, AT 4 QUEENS PLACE, WILLIAM STREET, HULL AND 3 VALLANCE PLACE, BLANKET ROW, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS).

WAS RECALLED AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. SERVED WITH THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. POSTED WITH THE MEDITERRANEAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. KILLED IN ACTION AT GALLIPOLI, ON 09/08/1915, AGED 45. COMMEMORATED ON THE HELLES MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING AT GALLIPOLI.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 11/09/1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON HULL’S  ALDBRO STREET & WILLIAM STREET ROLL’S OF HONOUR. ALSO LISTED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH, JARRATT STREET, HULL.
